What should I use if I want to whiten my teeth at home?

An all-inclusive kit like our White in Minutes Home Kit is the best because it includes all the items needed to get professional-level results at home.

If you like whitening strips, try one of our 14-day kits.

How often should I whiten my teeth at home?

Most people whiten for 4–14 days, depending on desired results, sensitivity level, and the product you purchase. Touchups can be done every 3-6 months.

Overuse is unnecessary and may cause sensitivity, so it’s best to follow the product instructions.

Can I whiten my teeth while pregnant or breastfeeding?

We recommend waiting until after pregnancy or breastfeeding. Even though whitening products are safe for enamel, dentists generally advise postponing cosmetic treatments during this time.

Can I whiten my teeth if I have crowns, veneers, or fillings?

No, and yes. Whitening products only lighten natural tooth enamel, so crowns, veneers, fillings, or bonding will not change color.

Your smile can still look brighter, but we recommend discussing with your dentist if you want a perfectly even shade.

Do I need custom trays, or can I use your teeth whitening kits on their own?

You don’t need custom trays to get results. All of our whitening trays are designed to give even results.

However, if you already own custom dental trays, you can also purchase our gels separately to use with them.

I already have whitening trays. Can I buy just the whitening gel?

Yes, you can buy refill gel syringes - no order too small - right HERE. We carry gel strengths for all sensitivity levels and have equivalent formulas to those of all name-brand whitening companies.

How do I choose the right teeth whitening gel strength?

Do I need an LED light to whiten my teeth?

Both of our formulas of Carbamide and Hydrogen Peroxide gels will work with or without a light/ high-intensity lamp.

The teeth whitening gel's whitening properties are activated by heat. Your body temperature will automatically activate the whitening gel; however, using a light or LED whitening machine will accelerate the results.

How does LED teeth whitening work?

LED teeth whitening uses blue light to speed up the chemical reactions that remove stains from teeth.

The light accelerates the increase in temperature of a whitening gel that contains hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, which breaks down faster and forms free radicals that whiten teeth.

How should I store my teeth whitening gel?

To ensure efficacy, we recommend keeping your teeth whitening gel refrigerated or in a cool, dark place.

Storing the gel in a warm location, or in direct sunlight, may decrease the shelf life of the product, make it unusable, or decrease its efficacy.

How long do teeth whitening results typically last?

Teeth whitening results vary from person to person, but many people enjoy a brighter smile for several months before needing a touch-up treatment.

Results can last longer with good oral hygiene, regular dental cleanings, and by limiting stain-causing foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco.

Occasional maintenance treatments can help keep your smile looking its best.

What should I do after whitening my teeth?

For the first 24 to 48 hours after whitening, it's best to avoid dark-colored foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, berries, tomato sauce, and dark sodas.

Following a "White Diet" during this period can help reduce the chance of new stains while your teeth recover from the whitening process. Maintaining good oral hygiene and staying hydrated can also help preserve your results.

Does teeth whitening damage enamel?

When used as directed, professional teeth whitening products do not damage healthy tooth enamel. Carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide have been widely used in professional whitening treatments for many years and work by breaking down stain molecules without removing or weakening enamel. Some people may experience temporary tooth sensitivity during or after whitening, but this typically resolves on its own or can be managed with desensitizing products.

Why aren't my teeth getting whiter?

Several factors can affect whitening results, including the type and severity of staining, your natural tooth color, whitening gel strength, treatment consistency, and existing dental restorations.

Some stains, such as those caused by certain medications or fluorosis, may be more resistant to whitening. Following the recommended instructions and completing multiple treatments often produces the best results.

Yes. Many people with sensitive teeth are still able to whiten successfully by choosing a gentler whitening formula and following the recommended instructions.

If you're prone to sensitivity, we generally recommend starting with a lower-strength carbamide peroxide gel, shortening treatment times if needed, and using a desensitizing gel or remineralizing gel between whitening sessions.

Which teeth whitening gel strength is best for sensitive teeth?

Should I stop whitening if my teeth become sensitive?

Will whitening make my sensitive teeth worse permanently?

No. Whitening-related sensitivity is typically temporary and should not permanently increase tooth sensitivity when whitening products are used as directed. Most people find that any sensitivity gradually subsides within a few days after completing treatment.

Can I use a desensitizing gel with my whitening treatment?

What's the difference between carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide whitening gel?

Hydrogen Peroxide gel is restricted for use in a dental office or by teeth whitening professionals and has a maximum of 6-month shelf life. Carbamide Peroxide gel can be used by home users or professionals and has a 6-12 month shelf life. 

Both hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide are effective whitening ingredients. Carbamide peroxide is a larger, more complex molecule and has about 1/3 the strength of hydrogen peroxide.

The other difference is that hydrogen peroxide works faster, but carbamide peroxide is more stable and yields better long-term results because the oxygen release is slower and more stable.

Which teeth whitening gel strength should I choose?

Both hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide produce excellent whitening results. A study published in the Journal of the American Dental Association showed that carbamide peroxide appeared to produce slightly more dramatic results when used by consumers because the whitening molecules are released slowly over time and because the peroxide remains more stable in consumer packaging.

Dentists and licensed dental whitening pros typically use hydrogen peroxide in their offices because they are interested in achieving rapid results. However, most typically, whitening clinics will use carbamide peroxide to complete the treatment and make sure that the teeth whitening procedure lasts.

Can I use your professional whitening gels with my existing equipment?

Yes. In most cases, our professional teeth whitening gels are compatible with existing whitening equipment, including LED whitening lamps, whitening trays, and many professional whitening systems.

If you're switching from another supplier, you can often continue using your current equipment while changing to our professional whitening gels. If you have questions about compatibility with your specific setup, our team is happy to help you choose the best products for your business.

Which whitening gel strengths should I offer my clients?

We recommend stocking multiple strengths so you can serve every client’s needs. For sensitive clients, 16% or 22% carbamide peroxide is ideal.

For faster results, 35% or 44% carbamide peroxide is often preferred. Professionals who want quick, high-impact results also use hydrogen peroxide gels.

What is the shelf life of professional whitening gels?

Carbamide peroxide gel has a 12-month shelf life, and hydrogen peroxide gel has a 6-month shelf life when stored properly in a cool, dry place.

Refrigeration can help extend freshness, but never freeze our whitening gel.

How do I safely store whitening gels and supplies?

Whitening gels should be kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not leave whitening products in warm temperatures, like in your car or a facility that doesn't maintain normal indoor temperatures. 

Avoid extreme temperatures, and refrigerate if you are storing goods for an extended period. Supplies such as trays and lamps should be stored clean and dry.

What types of teeth stains can hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide remove?

Teeth whitening systems (white strips, whitener trays, gels, and swabs) containing either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide can remove coffee stains, food stains, wine stains, drink stains, and smoking stains.

Teeth whitening products will not whiten false teeth, crowns, caps, dentures, or tetracycline stains.

How should I manage tooth sensitivity during whitening treatments?

Sensitivity is temporary and typically resolves within 24 hours. You can reassure clients that it’s common and provide desensitizing gels or recommend alternating whitening sessions with sensitivity-reducing toothpaste.

Typically, some people experience gum sensitivity, not many do, but it’s common because of a few reasons:

  1. They naturally have sensitive gums
  2. They brush or floss aggressively in general or before the treatments. Doing so creates microabrasions on the skin that will naturally flare up when exposed to peroxide. 
  3. They smoke and/or drink acidic beverages
  4. They are taking certain medications that could increase skin sensitivity

So long as the irritation dissipates after 24-48 hours, there is no need to be concerned.

We always recommend checking on the whitening client every 5 minutes or during treatment to assess if any irritation is developing.
