Frequently Asked Questions

Home Whitening Questions

What should I use if I want to whiten my teeth at home?

An all-inclusive kit like our White in Minutes Home Kit is the best because it includes all the items needed to get professional-level results at home.

If you like whitening strips, try one of our 14-day kits.

How often should I whiten my teeth at home?

Most people whiten for 4–14 days, depending on desired results, sensitivity level, and the product you purchase. Touchups can be done every 3-6 months.

Overuse is unnecessary and may cause sensitivity, so it’s best to follow the product instructions.

How long do teeth whitening results typically last?

Results vary depending on lifestyle and habits, but most people see whiter teeth for 3 to 6 months after a whitening treatment.

Coffee, tea, red wine, artificially-colored food/drinks, and smoking can shorten results, while regular touch-ups help maintain a brighter smile.

Are there any specific after-care instructions when I am whitening my teeth?

Yes! There is a wide range of foods, beverages, and activities that should be avoided after teeth whitening. Read details HERE.

Are your whitening products safe for sensitive teeth?

Yes. We carry gentle formulas designed for sensitivity (like 16% CP, 22% CP, and PAP+), as well as desensitizing gels for added comfort.

Many customers with sensitive teeth find that they can whiten safely by using lower-strength gels or whitening strips specifically designed for sensitive teeth.

Check out our complete collection of teeth whitening products for sensitive teeth HERE.

Do your products cause enamel damage?

No. When used as directed, our whitening gels and strips are safe for enamel. They lift stains from the surface of teeth without thinning or weakening enamel.

Can I whiten my teeth while pregnant or breastfeeding?

We recommend waiting until after pregnancy or breastfeeding. Even though whitening products are safe for enamel, dentists generally advise postponing cosmetic treatments during this time.

Can I use whitening products if I have dental work such as crowns or veneers?

Whitening products only lighten natural tooth enamel, so crowns, veneers, fillings, or bonding will not change color.

Your smile can still look brighter, but we recommend discussing with your dentist if you want a perfectly even shade.

Do I need custom trays or can I use your whitening kits on their own?

You don’t need custom trays to get results. All of our whitening trays are designed to give even results.

However, if you already own custom dental trays, you can also purchase our gels separately to use with them.

I already have trays. Do you sell just the whitening refill gel?

Yes, you can buy refill gel syringes - no order too small - right HERE. We carry gel strengths for all sensitivity levels and have equivalent formulas to those of all name-brand whitening companies.

How do I know what teeth whitening gel strength is best for me?

Here’s a simple guide to picking the perfect teeth whitening to use at home:

16% Carbamide Peroxide - great for people with high tooth/gum sensitivity, or beginners who have never whitened their teeth before

22% Carbamide Peroxide - great for people with some tooth/gum sensitivity

35% Carbamide Peroxide - great for people with no tooth/gum sensitivity

44% Carbamide Peroxide - great for experienced users who know they are not sensitive to whitening gels

Where are your teeth whitening gels made?

All of our whitening gel is manufactured in an FDA-Certified cleanroom facility in the USA.

Our manufacturers produce products for some of the largest teeth whitening suppliers worldwide, so we know our gels are safe and effective.

What are the ingredients in White in Minutes teeth whitening gel?

Carbamide Peroxide Gel Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Glycerine, Carbamide Peroxide, d-Limonene, Peppermint Essential Oil

All of our teeth whitening gel products, including whitening pens, are:

  • Vegan - made with vegetable glycerine
  • Made in the USA in FDA-certified clean room facilities
  • Never tested on animals
  • Gluten-free
  • Stored in a temperature-controlled environment to ensure full shelf life
  • Manufactured on a bi-weekly basis to ensure freshness

Do your teeth whitening gels require a light to whiten teeth?

Both of our formulas of Carbamide and Hydrogen Peroxide gels will work with or without a light/ high-intensity lamp.

The teeth whitening gel's whitening properties are activated by heat. Your body temperature will automatically activate the whitening gel; however, using a light or LED whitening machine will accelerate the results.

How Does LED Teeth Whitening Work?

LED teeth whitening uses blue light to speed up the chemical reactions that remove stains from teeth.

The light accelerates the increase in temperature of a whitening gel that contains hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, which breaks down faster and forms free radicals that whiten teeth.

How should I store my teeth whitening gel when I'm not using it?

To ensure efficacy, we recommend keeping your teeth whitening gel refrigerated or in a cool, dark place.

Storing the gel in a warm location, or in direct sunlight, may decrease the shelf life of the product, make it unusable, or decrease its efficacy.

What payment types do you accept?

You can complete payment of your order with any major credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or ShopPay.

What is the difference between your teeth whitening lamps?

Choosing the right teeth whitening lamp depends on your business setup and how you plan to offer treatments. Both of our professional-grade lamps are designed for reliable, effective whitening, but they serve slightly different needs.

Pro20 Lamp

  • Floor lamp on casters for easy movement
  • Adjustable neck for positioning comfort
  • 4 bulbs (20 watts of power)
  • Comes with a remote for convenient control during treatments
  • Lightweight and portable, making it ideal for mobile businesses, parties, trade shows, and events, as well as in-office use

Pro40 Lamp

  • Floor lamp on casters with a pivoting adjustable neck
  • 8 bulbs (40 watts of power) for stronger output
  • Customizable illumination settings:

Blue light for teeth whitening

Red light to support circulation and reduce inflammation

Purple light for disinfection benefits

  • Built to stay in place — heavier than the Pro20, best suited for stationary, in-office setups
  • Operated manually (does not include a remote)

How to decide:

  • If you need a versatile, portable lamp that can handle both in-office and on-the-go whitening, the Pro20 is a great choice.
  • If your focus is on maximum power, multi-function settings, and a permanent setup, the Pro40 offers enhanced performance and flexibility.

Both lamps are professional-quality and fully compatible with our whitening kits, so your decision comes down to mobility versus power and added light functions.

What's the difference between Carbamide & Hydrogen Peroxide teeth whitening gel?

Hydrogen Peroxide gel is restricted for use in a dental office or by teeth whitening professionals and has a maximum of 6-month shelf life. Carbamide Peroxide gel can be used by home users or professionals and has a 6-12 month shelf life.

Both hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide are effective whitening ingredients. Carbamide peroxide is a larger, more complex molecule and has about 1/3 the strength of hydrogen peroxide. In other words, 30% carbamide peroxide has about the same strength as 10% hydrogen peroxide. The other difference is that hydrogen peroxide works faster, but carbamide peroxide is more stable and yields better long-term results because the oxygen release is slower and more stable.

This chart may be useful if you are looking to buy close equivalents:

16% Carbamide Peroxide = 6% Hydrogen Peroxide

22% Carbamide Peroxide = 9% Hydrogen Peroxide

35% Carbamide Peroxide = 12% Hydrogen Peroxide

44% Carbamide Peroxide = 16% Hydrogen Peroxide

Does one teeth whitening formula or strength work better than the other?

Both hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide produce excellent whitening results. A study published in the Journal of the American Dental Association showed that carbamide peroxide appeared to produce slightly more dramatic results when used by consumers because the whitening molecules are released slowly over time and because the peroxide remains more stable in consumer packaging.

Dentists and licensed dental whitening pros typically use hydrogen peroxide in their offices because they are interested in achieving rapid results. However, most typically, whitening clinics will use carbamide peroxide to complete the treatment and make sure that the teeth whitening procedure lasts.

What types of teeth stains can hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide remove?

Teeth whitening systems (white strips, whitener trays, gels, and swabs) containing either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide can remove coffee stains, food stains, wine stains, drink stains, and smoking stains.

Teeth whitening products will not whiten false teeth, crowns, caps, dentures, or tetracycline stains.

What gel strengths should I carry for different types of clients?

We recommend stocking multiple strengths so you can serve every client’s needs. For sensitive clients, 16% or 22% carbamide peroxide is ideal.

For faster results, 35% or 44% carbamide peroxide is often preferred. Professionals who want quick, high-impact results also use hydrogen peroxide gels.

What are the ingredients in teeth whitening gel?

Ingredients are dependent on the formula (HP or CP). Please see the following:

Carbamide Peroxide Gel Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Glycerine, Carbamide Peroxide, d-Limonene, Peppermint Essential Oil

Hydrogen Peroxide Gel Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Glycerine, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peppermint Essential Oil

What is the shelf life of professional whitening gels?

Carbamide peroxide gel has a 12-month shelf life, and hydrogen peroxide gel has a 6-month shelf life when stored properly in a cool, dry place.

Refrigeration can help extend freshness, but never freeze our whitening gel.

How do I safely store whitening gels and supplies?

Whitening gels should be kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not leave whitening products in warm temperatures, like in your car or a facility that doesn't maintain normal indoor temperatures.

Avoid extreme temperatures, and refrigerate if you are storing goods for an extended period. Supplies such as trays and lamps should be stored clean and dry.

How do I explain sensitivity to clients and manage it during treatments?

Sensitivity is temporary and typically resolves within 24 hours. You can reassure clients that it’s common and provide desensitizing gels or recommend alternating whitening sessions with sensitivity-reducing toothpaste.

Typically, some people experience gum sensitivity, not many do, but it’s common because of a few reasons:

  1. They naturally have sensitive gums
  2. They brush or floss aggressively in general or before the treatments. Doing so creates microabrasions on the skin that will naturally flare up when exposed to peroxide.
  3. They smoke and/or drink acidic beverages
  4. They are taking certain medications that could increase skin sensitivity

So long as the irritation dissipates after 24-48 hours, there is no need to be concerned.

We always recommend checking on the whitening client every 5 minutes or during treatment to assess if any irritation is developing.

Do you provide training materials or support for new teeth whitening professionals?

Yes. We offer professional business packages that include training resources, client forms, and step-by-step guidance.

We’re also available to answer questions via text message and email as you grow your whitening business.

Do you offer wholesale pricing?

Yes, we do! Most items can be purchased in discount packs, starting as low as 5 units per item.

When viewing an item, toggle the "Select Pack Size" drop-down menu to view discounted pricing.

Does The Whitening Store offer private labeling of any products?

We currently do not offer any customization or private labeling for our products.

We do, however, sell blank teeth whitening pens and teeth whitening gel HERE.

Do I need a dental license to offer professional teeth whitening?

Regulations vary by state and country. In many areas, non-dentists can legally provide whitening services, but we recommend checking your local laws before starting.

In many US states, you can offer teeth whitening services where you facilitate the whitening process without physically touching the client's mouth.

What is the typical profit margin on professional whitening services?

Most professionals see 200–400% markup per whitening treatment. Offering touch-up products like whitening pens or strips increases revenue and keeps clients coming back.

How do I sterilize a C-shaped retractor?

Cleaning: Immediately after use, thoroughly rinse fluids/debris from the device with copious amounts of cool running water. Clean with soap and water. Visually check to ensure surfaces are clean and free from damage, stains, and bioburden. Rinse Retractors with distilled or de-mineralized water if possible. Inspect the device for visual damage, wear, and tear, or deterioration. Discard broken, defective, or worn-out products.

Sterilization: If steam sterilization is desired, autoclave @ 120°C / 248°F for 30 minutes. Always follow your autoclave manufacturer's instructions and adhere to AAMI ST79 standards for safe practices. NOTE: It is the responsibility of the reprocessor to ensure that the reprocessing is performed using equipment, materials, and personnel in the reprocessing facility to achieve the desired result. This requires validation and routine monitoring of the process. Likewise, any deviation by the user from the instructions provided must be properly evaluated for effectiveness and potential adverse consequences.
