It’s that spooky time of year again and Halloween is approaching. If you’re wondering how you’re going to spend your time celebrating, we’ve made it easier for you! Bring your candy because you’re going to be watching 16 of the scariest Halloween movies. Which one are you going to watch first?
1. Hocus Pocus
Okay, so maybe this isn’t necessarily the scariest but it’s still a cult classic and a fan favorite. It definitely scared us when we were younger! The Sanderson sister witches had absorbed the youth from a child named Emily, to regain their own youth. Before being hanged for the wrong doings, they cast a spell that the witches would resurrect during a full moon on Hallows eve when a virgin would light the black flame candle.
2. The Shining
Stephen King knew what he was doing when he wrote this story. The Shining is probably one of the top scariest movies out there. A family is staying at an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil presence influences the father to commit acts of violence. His psychic son is also envisioning horrific things from the past and future.
3. Scream
A year after the murder of her mother, Sidney is terrorized by a masked murderer who goes after her and her friends and asks the infamous question, “What’s your favorite scary movie?”
4. Halloween (1978)
On Halloween night, infamous masked murderer, Michael Meyers, escapes a mental institution that he’s been in for 15 years and he’s coming back home.
5. Halloween (2018)
It’s been decades since Laurie escaped death by the hands of Michael Meyers and she’s back for revenge, one last time.
6. A Nightmare on Elm Street
1…2…Freddy’s coming for you. A group of teenagers are having their dreams invaded by the spirit of a killer janitor whose death was caused by the teens’ parents.
7. Beetlejuice
A recently deceased couple summon a demon to scare away the people that are living in their home. Say his name three times and he will appear. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!
8. The Exorcist
A mother seeks the help of two priests after she learns that her daughter is possessed by some demonic entity.
9. Casper
This is also not a “scary” one but still a classic. A paranormal expert and his daughter move into a home inhabited by three mischievous ghosts and one friendly one.
10. Practical Magic
Two witch sisters living with their aunts are facing prejudice from the people in their town and also have a curse placed on them to prevent them from ever finding love.
11. Donnie Darko
After escaping a very strange accident, Donne Darko finds friendship with a man dressed in a rabbit suit, who only he can see, and makes him commit a series of crimes.
12. Ghostbusters
Three men, who were former parapsychology professors, team up to create a service that removes ghosts.
13. Under Wraps
Three children accidentally awake a 3,000-year-old mummy and set him free. If they don’t get him back to his resting place by midnight on Halloween, he will never get a chance to be reunited with his long-lost love and will turn to dust.
14. Urban Legend
A group of college students are part of a killer’s urban legend after a string of bizarre murders happen on campus that are all connected to an urban legend about a professor who killed six students 25 years before.
15. The Craft
A girl is new to town and befriends three girls who practice witchcraft. Together, they are unstoppable as they conjure up spells and curses against anyone who angers them.
16. The Witches
A young boy is staying at a hotel with his grandmother when he stumbles upon a witch convention. He hears them planning on getting rid of all the children in England. While trying to stop them, he gets turned into a mouse.
